Patient’s Story

You are Michael Hollaway, a 35-year-old man attending a telephone consultation to discuss your recent blood test results.

If asked why the blood test was done, respond with the following:

You saw a doctor a few days ago because you were feeling tired and had noticed unexplained bruising. The doctor examined you and also noticed the bruising, so he asked you to do some blood tests to check things properly.

IF ASKED TO EXPLAIN FURTHER:

For the past 5 weeks, you have been feeling persistently tired and have noticed unexplained bruising appearing on different parts of your body, particularly your arms and hands. This is new for you and has never happened before, which is making you feel quite worried.

ONLY SAY BELOW IF ASKED SPECIFICALLY

You also recall having a sore throat about 7 weeks ago, but that resolved on its own and you haven’t had any weight loss or other symptoms.

Social History: You are married with three children and live with your family.

You are a non-smoker, do not drink alcohol, and work as a cloud engineer.

Ideas: You are worried it might be leukaemia, especially because your older sister had similar symptoms when she was younger, was later diagnosed with leukaemia, and sadly passed away from it.

Concerns: That this could also be leukaemia.

Expectations: You want the doctor to explain your blood test results clearly.

Say NO to any other questions asked outside of the details already provided in the scenario. Accept anything offered to you by the doctor.
