Patient’s Story

You are Adetokunbo Ademola, 56 years old. You prefer to be called Toks.

You have booked this consultation to discuss your recent blood test results.

If asked why the blood test was done, respond with: Explain that over the past month, you’ve noticed your urinary symptoms getting worse. You’ve been waking up more often at night to pass urine, sometimes dribbling into your underwear afterwards, and feeling like you’re not completely emptying your bladder each time.

The doctor you saw last week did an examination and said your prostate felt enlarged, which might be causing these symptoms. They suggested doing blood tests to investigate further.

Social History: You are a Non-smoker, you do not drink alcohol or take recreational drugs, and you are married with children. You work as an accountant.

Ideas: You believe your symptoms are likely due to your prostate

Concerns: You’re mainly concerned about the discomfort, you just want your symptoms to be resolved, as they’re becoming increasingly uncomfortable

Expectations: You’d like to be given medication to help shrink the prostate and improve your symptoms

If the doctor suggests an urgent referral to a specialist, respond by asking: “Can’t you prescribe something first to shrink the prostate and see if that helps?”

Say NO to any other questions asked outside of the details already provided in the scenario. Accept anything offered to you by the doctor.
