Patient’s Story 

You are Michael Stevenson, a 32-year-old male. 

You would like to discuss something private. You have recently developed headaches that occur during sexual activity. These began around 2–3 weeks ago.

Only disclose the following details if asked:

Describe the pain as a “pressure like sensation” and sometimes, it becomes a severe pounding headache that quickly builds up as sexual activity progresses. 

It occurs just before or at the point of orgasm and it subsides within 30-60 minutes but leaves a mild lingering sensation for a few hours.

It Occurs with nearly every sexual encounter, both with your partner and during masturbation.

Associated Symptoms: No nausea, vomiting, visual disturbances, or sensitivity to light and sound, symptoms you usually associate with your migraines. You have tried ibuprofen and paracetamol but does not necessarily take the headache away 

Social History; You work as a financial analyst with KPMG. You love your job and there is no stress. You live with your girlfriend of 2 years. You do not smoke or drink. You are currently calling from home. 

Ideas: you suspect your migraine is getting worse and would like another prescription for naproxen

Concerns; It is starting to affect your sexual life as you avoid sex due to this headache 

Expectations: You would like the GP to prescribe naproxen again
